Roadtrip to Canberra!

Roadtrip to Canberra!

Posted on 31 August 2010 by LettyLim

Bringing Photoclub out of Sydney!

We are in the midst of organizing a roadtrip to Canberra, for the Floriade on the 2nd of Oct to the 3rd of Oct. Yes, it will be an overnight trip. We thought an overnight trip would give us more time to explore around our capital territory, and that would also mean less tiring for the Photoclubbers who’ll be driving. We are carpooling!

Depending on how many people will be going, the cost of this roadtrip will not be more than $90. This cost covers petrol TO Canberra, AROUND Canberra, BACK to Sydney, and Accommodation. Food and entrance fees excluded though most of the places do not require an entrance fee.

At Canberra, we planned to visit:

Floriade – The Annual Flower Show (click for details)

- War Memorial

- National Zoo

- Black Mountain Tower – An Observatory

- Miniature Gardens

If you are interested, please aid us in the organising work by filling up this survey form HERE.

We will be taking registrations next week. By then, we will have the final costs and will be accepting pre-pays.

This trip is a good chance to practise your photography skills in various aspects like, Macro photography, Event photography, Photojournalism etc etc!

Take this opportunity to take a break before you go full-on into the preparation of the final exams! It will be a lot of fun!

Hope to hear from all of you soon! :)

*Remember the survey! HERE!

Studio Lighting Workshop

Studio Lighting Workshop

Posted on 28 August 2010 by LettyLim

The Studio Lighting Workshop was held today, with three 2-hour sessions, giving 18 of our Photoclubbers the chance to get a taste of what it’s like to work in a studio setting. 1 make-up artist, 3 models, and 18 photographers, we hope all of you who participated enjoyed this workshop! I’m sure those who came had taken heaps of awesome photos, and I urge all of you to send in your photos either through the club email (unswphotoclub@gmail.com), or tag @UNSW Photoclub on Facebook. And your work might be featured on the next blog post!

While all of you are looking through and editing them, I’m sure the other members wanna take a peek into what exactly happened during the workshop. Here’s the “exclusive” behind-the-scenes! :P

Before each shoot, there are a lot of preparation work to be done like what Mr President is doing. Adjusting the lights….

Testing out the settings…

And looks like everyone wants a shot of Mr Benny!

While the photographers side are doing up the flashes and softboxes, the models and make-up artist were not idling either. Who would go in front of the lens without make up? :P

One of the models for the earlier session, Emily, touching up on her make-up.

And here’s Daisy and the make-up artist!

There were also chunks of accessories for the models!

Including fake lashes ;)

When make up is done, and lights are up. It’s time for some ACTION! The posing and snapping starts right from this point!

There are also props like this ladder, a suitcase and basically any other things you could find around the studio.

Photos make everyone happy!

Our very thoughtful P and VP also put up a slideshow of the possible poses that could create a great studio shot. Or to trigger any inspiration you might have!

Camaraderie. Sometimes it’s not just about photo-taking, you’ll make good friends within the club :)

ARC is in our presence wherever we are!

This is just a reminder that the no shoes are allowed on the backdrop!

If you are with us long enough, you’d know that the unofficial rule of Photoclub is to have an iPhone :P

Can you believe your eyes that this very picture is taken by an iPhone 4? To be completely honest, I can’t. It certainly could easily pass off as a DSLR-quality photo! *awed*

This is just a sneak peek to what’s coming up next. In the next post, we’ll present you all the glamorous shots, so STAY TUNED!

Have a great weekend!

Week 6′s Tutorial & Outing!

Week 6′s Tutorial & Outing!

Posted on 24 August 2010 by LettyLim

Cliche as it sounds, time flies! And we are into the sixth week of the semester. Everyone must have been busy studying for their mid-sem exams and rushing assignments! But in the midst of it all, do take a break from the books and JOIN US in this week’s Digital Darkroom.

Digital Darkroom focuses on enhancing your photographs by post-processing using softwares such as the Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop and Aperture. This time round, we will mostly be working with Lightroom, learning how to enhance your images’ lightings and colours (as opposed to the previous Photoshop tutorial where editing of the image itself is concerned).

Look at these! If you had always been wanting to achieve such lightings, but haven’t gotten your way to it. This Friday’s tutorial will teach you the trick of the trade!

It gives your dull photo a lot more vibrancy!

Or if you want to have a completely different effect to the photo, you can always add the vintage (or any other) feel to the photos with these softwares.

It isn’t difficult! Just come on down to School of Materials Science and Engineering (behind Law Building), Room G11, this coming Friday on the 27th of August at 4pm. From then, your photos will never be the same!

See you there!

***

For those of you who’re fast enough in replying to emails, and got yourself a spot in this Saturday’s Lighting Studio Workshop, you know you are in for a very exciting photoshoot! Details on venue and how to get there had been emailed out, so check your inbox!

But for those of you who missed out this workshop due to different reasons, fret not! Send an email to unswphotoclub@gmail.com to express your interest in portraiture/model workshops. We will be more than happy to organise another one in the coming weeks!

A few key things to note for the 18 of you who’ll be going for the workshop this Saturday, you know who you are!

It’ll be required of you to arrive at least 15 minutes before your allocated time sessions. Things to bring include your CAMERA, CF Card/SD Card if you don’t own a camera/SLR and most importantly INSPIRATION! We’ll be working with amateur-semi professional models, so you have to be prepared to guide them to do what you want, or what can make your shots look best! This is the time to let yourself step into the shoes of a professional photographer and feel what it’s like!

If you don’t know where to start gathering inspiration, the following photos might give you a head-start and you can go onto Flickr, Google and anywhere on the Internet to look for the kind of studio photos that appeals to your style!

Credits of above photos goes to Tealilyphotography.

Getting all psyched for this outing?

Yea, we look forward to seeing you this Saturday too!

Have a good week! And good luck to those sitting for their mid-sem exams :)
